According to local authorities, the two men were drinking together around 2 p.m. on a Sunday when a verbal argument suddenly turned physical. Witnesses said the tension quickly escalated, leading to a deadly confrontation.
Balaba reportedly wielded a bolo, while Omapas defended himself with a scythe. Despite his efforts, Omapas succumbed to his injuries, underscoring the severity of the fight.
Swift Police Response and Arrest
Following the incident, police launched an immediate hot pursuit operation within the village, resulting in the suspect’s arrest shortly after the attack. Authorities recovered both the bolo and the scythe at the crime scene as evidence.
Balaba is now detained at the Guindulman Police Station, where homicide charges are being prepared. Local leaders noted the incident as a tragic reminder of how quickly situations can escalate when alcohol is involved.
