Suspected Motorcycle Carnapping Sparks Deadly Police Encounter
Early Friday morning, a suspected motorcycle carnapping incident in Antipolo City escalated into a fatal shooting after the suspect exchanged gunfire with police officers. The incident began around 3:30 a.m. when the owner noticed their motorcycle, parked outside their home, was missing.
In an effort to recover the stolen vehicle, the victim promptly shared details of the theft on Facebook, asking the community for help. Soon after, a concerned citizen spotted a man trying to sell what appeared to be the stolen motorcycle in Sitio Gipit and alerted the victim and local authorities.
Police Spot Suspect and Confrontation Ensues
Acting on the tip, two patrol officers on duty approached the area to investigate. When the suspect noticed the police, he attempted to flee. During the brief chase, the suspect reportedly drew a firearm and fired two shots at the officers. One officer then returned fire, hitting the suspect in the head.
Emergency responders rushed the injured suspect to the nearest hospital. Authorities have not yet disclosed the suspect’s identity or current medical condition. Meanwhile, police recovered a .38-caliber revolver loaded with two live rounds and the stolen motorcycle from the scene.
