Fatal Shootout in Dinagat Islands Claims Officer and Suspect
Authorities reported a deadly shootout in Dinagat Islands that resulted in the deaths of a police officer and a suspect. The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) confirmed that the incident occurred early Thursday morning in Purok 4, Barangay Santa Cruz, San Jose town. This tragic event highlights the risks faced by law enforcers in the line of duty.
Patrolman Ferry Jaso, a member of the Philippine National Police assigned to the CIDG in Dinagat Islands, was identified as the officer who was killed during the encounter. The suspect was named as Abner Casador. Both men lost their lives in the violent confrontation.
Surveillance Operation Turns Deadly
Jaso and his partner, Patrolman Leonel Estroso, had been conducting surveillance on Casador for an alleged offense under Republic Act 10591, the Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. When the officers approached Casador, he immediately recognized them as policemen and drew his .45 caliber pistol. The suspect fired at Jaso, hitting him in the head and causing his instant death.
In response, Estroso returned fire, hitting Casador multiple times. The suspect also died at the scene. This rapid exchange of gunfire demonstrates the dangers law enforcement officers face while enforcing firearm regulations.
