Death After Circumcision Procedure Raises Alarms in Manila
The Manila Police District (MPD) is investigating the tragic death of a 10-year-old boy following a circumcision procedure in Tondo, Manila. Authorities suspect complications from improperly administered anesthesia as the cause of death.
According to official autopsy results, the boy died from a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a type of bleeding inside the head. This unfortunate outcome occurred shortly after the boy was given anesthesia during the routine procedure.
The victim was brought to a lying-in clinic in Balut, Tondo, on May 17 for circumcision. During the operation, he received 20cc of anesthesia from an individual later identified as an impostor posing as a licensed medical practitioner.
Clinic’s Illegal Operation and Unlicensed Practitioner
Immediately after receiving the anesthesia, the boy began to convulse and quickly lost consciousness. Emergency responders rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he was declared dead upon arrival.
Investigators confirmed that the clinic was functioning without proper accreditation. Moreover, the person performing the procedure lacked the necessary medical license. Authorities have classified the case as reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and are exploring additional charges related to illegal medical practice.
The boy’s family emphasized that he was healthy before the procedure and is demanding full accountability for those responsible. “Sana managot sila sa ginawa nila,” a relative stated.
Warnings from Health Authorities
The Department of Health has urged the public to seek medical services only from certified professionals and licensed facilities to prevent similar incidents.
Meanwhile, the MPD confirmed that the victim’s mother has already filed a complaint affidavit against the unlicensed practitioner.
This heartbreaking incident highlights the risks of unregulated medical procedures and the importance of verifying credentials before entrusting health care providers.
