Dengue Cases Rise Amid Weather Changes
From July 20 to August 2, 2025, the Department of Health reported a total of 15,161 dengue cases across the Philippines. This figure reflects a 2 percent increase compared to the 14,909 cases recorded between July 6 and July 19, 2025, just before the country faced tropical cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong, officials reported.
Health authorities emphasized the need to monitor the dengue situation closely, especially with the southwest monsoon, locally called habagat, and a low-pressure area affecting Southern Mindanao. These weather conditions may contribute to a possible surge in dengue cases, sources said.
Community Action Against Mosquito Breeding
The Department of Health urged the public to maintain clean surroundings to prevent mosquito breeding. Community leaders noted that stagnant water in containers serves as prime breeding grounds for Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which transmit dengue.
“Keep your environment clean and continue doing the ‘Taob, Taktak, Tuyo, at Takip’ on water-holding containers that can harbor Aedes aegypti mosquitoes every day,” the DOH advised in Filipino.
Recognizing Symptoms and Seeking Help
Health officials reminded residents to seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms such as persistent fever lasting two days, rashes, body aches, muscle and eye pain, dizziness, or vomiting. Early detection and treatment are crucial to managing dengue effectively, community members said.
To facilitate prompt care, Dengue Fast Lanes remain operational in DOH hospitals nationwide, ensuring quick response to dengue patients, local health authorities confirmed.
Preventive Measures Remain Vital
Given the ongoing environmental factors that favor mosquito proliferation, vigilance remains key. The Department of Health continues to encourage everyone to participate actively in dengue prevention efforts. Regularly emptying and covering water containers can significantly reduce mosquito breeding sites.
As the country navigates through these challenges, officials reiterate the importance of community cooperation in halting the spread of dengue.
