Department of Education Prepares for School Year 2025–2026
The Department of Education (DepEd) remains fully committed to its preparations for the upcoming school year 2025–2026, even amid recent leadership changes. Despite submitting a courtesy resignation as directed by the President, Secretary of Education Sonny Angara continues to lead the department’s efforts.
“Tuloy-tuloy lang po ang pagtatrabaho ng ating kalihim, full-blast ang ating preparations para sa nalalapit na pagbubukas ng bagong school year natin in less than a month,” said a DepEd spokesperson, emphasizing the ongoing dedication to ensuring a smooth start.
School Year 2025–2026 Plans and Calendar
DepEd has confirmed that the school year will officially begin on June 16, 2025, returning to the pre-pandemic academic calendar. The schedule, outlined in DepEd Order No. 012, s. 2025, sets the school year to end on March 31, 2026, with a maximum of 197 class days, including End-of-School-Year activities.
The department is actively preparing classrooms, deploying teachers, and coordinating logistics across regions. Private schools, Philippine Schools Overseas, and state and local universities offering basic education are encouraged to follow these guidelines, ensuring they meet the required number of class days and the official opening date.
While in-person classes will remain the primary method of instruction, DepEd will implement Distance Learning Delivery Modalities such as Modular Distance Learning, Online Distance Learning, TV-Based Instruction, Radio-Based Instruction, or blended learning if emergencies arise.
Enrollment and Registration Details
Early registration is encouraged for kindergarten, first-time learners, transferees to public schools, and incoming Grades 1, 7, and 11, as well as Alternative Learning System enrollees. Typically, early registration runs from late January to late February, with possible adjustments by DepEd or local divisions.
Learners moving to Grades 2–6, 8–10, and 12 are automatically pre-registered. The main enrollment period will occur one week before classes begin.
Brigada Eskwela and Community Involvement
The annual Brigada Eskwela, a nationwide effort to prepare public schools through community participation, is scheduled during the week leading up to the school opening. This initiative highlights the importance of collaboration between schools, parents, and local communities.
Angara to Attend 2025 Palarong Pambansa Opening
As the 2025 Palarong Pambansa kicks off in Ilocos Norte, DepEd underscores its commitment to holistic education by promoting both academic and athletic excellence. Secretary Angara is set to join President Marcos at the official opening in Laoag on May 24.
The event, running from May 24 to 31, features 24 regular sports such as athletics, basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, taekwondo, and swimming. It also introduces demonstration sports like weightlifting and girls’ futsal, plus an exhibition in kickboxing.
Additionally, para-games for athletes with disabilities will include para-athletics, para-swimming, bocce, and goalball. Approximately 1,777 medals will be awarded across all events.
A cultural segment called Palaro ng Lahi will spotlight traditional Filipino games, fostering cultural awareness and heritage among youth participants.
Continued Commitment Despite Leadership Changes
Although Secretary Angara’s courtesy resignation has been submitted following a Cabinet-wide directive, DepEd assures the public that all programs and initiatives will continue without interruption.
“Habang wala pa namang aksyon ang Malacañang sa courtesy resignation na ipinasa kahapon, tuloy-tuloy po ang lahat ng programa natin sa DepEd,” the department confirmed.
This steadfast approach ensures that the preparations for the school year and ongoing projects remain on track, prioritizing the welfare and education of Filipino learners.
