DOH Opens Advance Comprehensive Centers for Orthopedic Care
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) recently inaugurated the Advance Comprehensive Centers for Orthopedic Care and Trauma and Burns Building at the Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital (JBLMGH) in San Fernando, Pampanga. This new trauma and orthopedic center aims to provide critical and timely treatment to patients in need.
According to sources, the JBLMGH is now fully equipped and ready to admit patients requiring urgent trauma, orthopedic, and burn care. The facility also supports advanced medical procedures that are vital in emergency situations. The department highlighted the significance of having such centers to improve accessibility to specialized medical services.
State-of-the-Art Facilities Enhance Emergency Care
The DOH emphasized that the new center features a “state-of-the-art” integrated operating room outfitted with complete digital equipment. This modern technology consolidates various surgical tools in one place, streamlining the process for complex operations related to orthopedic injuries and trauma emergencies.
Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa stressed the importance of prompt medical attention in serious injury cases. He noted, “Because of specialty centers like this in the regions, the patients needing medical care do not need to travel far.” Such regional facilities are crucial in saving lives by reducing the time it takes for patients to receive treatment.
Expanding Access to Specialized Medical Services Nationwide
In a related event, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced plans to open additional specialty centers and Bagong Urgent Care and Ambulatory Service (Bucas) centers. These initiatives aim to serve the 28 million poorest Filipinos by bringing urgent care closer to their communities.
As of May 2025, there are already 52 DOH-affiliated Bucas centers operating across 33 provinces. These centers offer free laboratory and treatment services for patients needing urgent but non-life-threatening medical care, significantly easing the burden on public hospitals and improving healthcare accessibility.
With the launch of these advance comprehensive centers, the government demonstrates its commitment to enhancing trauma and orthopedic care. This development marks a vital step in strengthening the healthcare system, ensuring timely and advanced medical intervention for Filipinos nationwide.
