Improving Employment Trends in the Philippines
Recent data from the Philippine Statistics Authority indicate a positive shift in the labor market. The country’s unemployment rate dropped from 3.9% in May to 3.7% in June 2025. This decrease means there are approximately 1.95 million unemployed Filipinos, down from 2.03 million the previous month, community members said.
In addition, the number of underemployed Filipinos—those looking for additional work or longer hours—also declined. It stood at 11.4%, or about 5.76 million individuals, compared to 13.1% or 6.6 million in May. Local leaders noted this improvement as a sign of gradual recovery in the job market.
Department of Labor and Employment’s Response
In light of the June 2025 Labor Force Survey, the Department of Labor and Employment emphasized its dedication to strengthening programs that enhance employability for both youth and adults. Officials reported ongoing efforts to expand training and employment services targeting unemployed Filipinos.
The agency also plans to upgrade the labor market information system, including the PhilJobNet online portal, to offer real-time job listings and improve access for job seekers nationwide. Furthermore, Dole will intensify student internship programs and broaden partnerships with national and local government units to create more job opportunities.
These nationwide job fairs represent a vital step in connecting Filipinos to meaningful employment and supporting the country’s economic growth.
