New Hanging Bridge Boosts Accessibility in Barangay Lipit Sur
MANAOAG, Pangasinan — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a P5 million hanging bridge project in Barangay Lipit Sur, aiming to improve travel safety and economic opportunities for local residents. This new infrastructure, funded under the General Appropriations Act of 2024, measures 0.09 kilometers and features durable materials like structural steel, wire rope, and reinforced concrete.
The bridge’s foundation uses Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP), ensuring stability during harsh weather conditions. Local sources confirm that the DPWH Pangasinan Second District Engineering Office, led by district officials, spearheaded the construction.
Transforming Daily Commutes and Economic Connectivity
Before the bridge was built, residents faced lengthy and risky river crossings to access essential services such as markets, schools, and workplaces. Students were particularly affected, often traveling four kilometers just to reach Lipit Elementary School. Many had to spend over P100 on rented rides or cross using bamboo rafts along alternate routes.
The new hanging bridge now allows pedestrians to cross between Barangay Lipit Sur and Barangay Pugaro within three to five minutes on foot. Community leaders noted that this connection significantly reduces travel time and improves safety for everyone, especially children heading to school.
Enhancing Community Safety and Economic Prospects
Local experts emphasize that the hanging bridge will not only secure safer daily commutes but also stimulate local economic growth. By connecting key barangays more efficiently, residents can access markets and jobs more easily, thereby boosting livelihood opportunities.
Residents expressed relief and optimism about the improved infrastructure, highlighting how the project addresses long-standing travel challenges. This development underscores the ongoing government efforts to enhance rural infrastructure and support community development.
