DepEd Praises Teachers for Election 2025 Efforts
The Department of Education (DepEd) expressed deep appreciation for the dedication shown by teachers and other poll workers during the conduct of Election 2025. Out of the 758,549 poll workers deployed nationwide, more than 660,000 were DepEd personnel who played a vital role in ensuring a safe, fair, and orderly election process.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara conveyed his gratitude: “Salamat po sa lahat ng guro, poll workers, at school staff na tumulong at nagbantay sa halalan. Mula simula hanggang matapos, andiyan kayo—hindi bumitaw.” He added, “Saludo po kami. Dahil sa inyo, naging maayos at safe ang proseso.”
Election 2025 Task Force Reports and Challenges
Throughout the election period from May 11 to 13, DepEd’s election task force operated around the clock, logging 603 election-related incidents. Most reports originated from the Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and the National Capital Region (NCR).
Common problems included vote counting machine malfunctions, irregularities in ballots and receipts, and concerns about the voter list. Many of these issues were resolved at the regional and division levels, while some were referred to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for further action.
Despite these challenges, DepEd maintained that the Election 2025 remained largely peaceful and well-managed. Undersecretary Malcolm Garma, chair of the DepEd election task force, stated, “In line with the assessment of the Comelec and other agencies, we can say that overall, the elections were conducted smoothly.”
Increased Compensation for Poll Workers in Election 2025
To recognize the important service of teachers and other poll workers, the Department of Budget and Management approved a P2,000 increase in compensation for Election 2025. New rates include:
- P12,000 for chairpersons, up from P10,000
- P11,000 for poll clerks, increased from P9,000
- P11,000 for third members, up from P9,000
- P8,000 for support staff, raised from P6,000
This pay hike reflects the government’s recognition of the critical role played by election workers in securing a credible voting process.
