DepEd Flags Fake News on Class Suspensions
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) has firmly dismissed an AI-generated video falsely announcing class suspensions for Monday, July 28. The misleading content circulated on social media, sparking confusion among students and parents.
In its advisory, DepEd shared a screenshot of a female newscaster created by artificial intelligence. The video claimed that classes would be suspended for the day, displaying a background message reading “SONA Walang Pasok Advisory.”
“The circulating AI video of an FB page on class suspension tomorrow, July 28, is fake news,” the agency stated in Filipino, urging the public to remain alert against misinformation.
Official Announcements and Public Advisories
Authorities reminded everyone to verify announcements only through DepEd’s official social media accounts. This step ensures that students and families receive accurate information about basic education and school schedules.
Meanwhile, local government officials confirmed that classes at all levels in Quezon City will indeed be suspended on July 28. This suspension aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA).
Quezon City’s Class Suspension Details
In accordance with Executive Order No. 10, Series of 2025, issued by Mayor Joy Belmonte, the suspension aims to encourage citizens to watch the SONA without disruptions and to help reduce traffic congestion during the event.
Marcos is scheduled to deliver his address at the Batasang Pambansa complex in Quezon City, where the temporary halt of classes is set to take place.
