DepEd Releases P4.19 Million Aid for School Fire Damage in Alimodian
ILOILO CITY – The Department of Education (DepEd) has promptly released P4.19 million in aid to support the restoration of a school in Alimodian town, Iloilo province, after a fire damaged parts of the campus on June 2. This quick action by DepEd demonstrates its commitment to helping schools recover swiftly ahead of the new academic year.
DepEd Undersecretary Atty. Peter Irving C. Corvera personally led the turnover of the financial assistance to Alimodian National Comprehensive High School (ANCHS). Local education officials, including DepEd-6 Regional Director Cristito Eco and Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Ernesto F. Servillon Jr., praised the immediate release of funds, especially with classes scheduled to begin on June 16.
Extent of Fire Damage at Alimodian School
The fire severely damaged approximately 14 rooms, among them five classrooms, the school canteen, clinic, band room, supply room, Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) office, and the Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health (MAPEH) office. The school principal, Romar Cubin, also reported that the gymnasium suffered partial damage.
How the Aid Will Be Utilized
The allocated P4.19 million will be used to build temporary classrooms equipped with proper water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities. Additionally, the funds will support the purchase of new teacher kits and play kits for students to facilitate continued learning and activities while repairs are underway.
Local authorities, including Iloilo Representative Michael Gorriceta and Alimodian Mayor Ian Kenneth Alfeche, have pledged to provide additional financial support to help fully rebuild the school.
This collaborative effort highlights the community’s dedication to ensuring that the students’ education remains uninterrupted despite the recent setbacks.
