DepEd Streamlines Enrollment Requirements Nationwide
The Department of Education (DepEd) has introduced new measures to simplify enrollment requirements for public schools across the country. These reforms aim to ease the financial and administrative burden on families, making the enrollment process more accessible and less stressful. Education Secretary Sonny Angara confirmed that starting this school year, parents or guardians only need to submit their child’s birth certificate once throughout the entire K-12 education journey.
“Enrollment problems often stem from documentary requirements—especially when records get lost, delayed, or must be reprocessed,” Secretary Angara shared. “This change saves families time and money while ensuring that no child misses the first day of school due to paperwork.”
New Enrollment Documents Policy
Under the new guidelines, first-time enrollees must present either the original or a certified true copy of their PSA or NSO-issued birth certificate. If the birth certificate is unavailable during enrollment, parents may submit alternative documents and provide the birth certificate by October 31. This flexibility aims to accommodate families facing delays in obtaining official documents.
DepEd accepts various secondary documents, including the National ID, other primary government-issued IDs, Certificate of Live Birth, Marriage Certificate, PhilHealth ID, PWD ID, Barangay Certification, Affidavit of Undertaking signed by a parent or guardian, NSO/PSA-issued Certificate of Foundling, and Baptismal Certificate.
Special Provisions for Alternative Learning System
The department has also made provisions for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) and residents of rehabilitation centers enrolled in the Alternative Learning System (ALS). These learners may submit any certificate or proof of identity to their ALS teacher to facilitate enrollment.
Flexible Enrollment Methods
Parents and guardians can enroll their children either in person or through remote options. For in-person registration, the Basic Education Enrollment Form (BEEF) and required documents must be submitted at the school. Learners of legal age may enroll on their own, while minors need a parent or guardian’s signature on the form.
Remote enrollment is available via email, school messaging platforms, or drop boxes placed in schools, barangay halls, and other designated locations. Both digital and printed copies of the BEEF are accessible through DepEd’s official channels and community distribution points.
Ensuring Smooth Transfers and No Fees
School officials were reminded to transfer learner records directly between schools. Additionally, no voluntary contributions or fees should be collected during early registration and enrollment stages.
Late enrollees are accepted if they meet at least 80 percent of the total school days and pass quarterly assessments. Otherwise, school heads may admit learners and provide additional support to help them catch up.
DepEd expects these enrollment reforms to boost participation and smooth out the registration process during the nationwide enrollment period from June 9 to 13. Classes for School Year 2025-2026 will officially begin on June 16.
