DepEd Debunks False Suspension of Classes Due to Mpox
The Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday, June 6, firmly denied circulating rumors about the suspension of classes due to the monkeypox (Mpox) virus. DepEd warned the public against believing or sharing such misleading social media posts.
“Fake news ang kumakalat na social media post tungkol sa umano’y suspension of classes dahil sa MPOX virus,” the agency emphasized. They urged everyone to stay alert and critically evaluate the information they encounter online.
Stay Vigilant Against Misinformation on Mpox
The education department stressed the importance of skepticism toward unverified claims. “Muling pinaaalalahanan ng DepEd ang publiko na mag-ingat at maging mapanuri laban sa misinformation,” they added.
To prevent confusion, DepEd encouraged the public to consult only official sources for updates. “Para sa opisyal na mga anunsiyo at impormasyon tungkol sa basic education, bisitahin lamang ang official DepEd Philippines social media accounts,” they reminded.
DOH Also Counters False Lockdown Reports
Earlier, on May 31, the Department of Health (DOH) issued a similar advisory to dispel viral Facebook posts falsely claiming lockdowns due to Mpox would be implemented. According to health officials, Mpox is not airborne, and lockdowns are unnecessary.
The DOH cautioned against social media content spreading fear through misleading health information or fake endorsements. Both agencies called for responsible sharing and fact-checking to avoid panic and misinformation.
