Detained Russian Vlogger Stuck in Jail, No Deportation
Russian vlogger Vitaly Zdorovetskiy will remain detained in a local jail as deportation is currently impossible, local authorities confirmed. The detained Russian vlogger’s deportation faces a deadlock because neither Russia nor the United States will accept him.
Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Juanito “Jonvic” Remulla explained the dilemma, saying, “Ang problema kasi namin, ang Russia, hindi siya tinatanggap, ang US naman, green card holder siya, hindi rin siya tinatanggap, so hindi namin alam kung saan siya papauwiin eh.” This means the government is unsure where to send Zdorovetskiy since both countries refuse to take him back.
Legal Troubles and Possible Sentencing
The detained Russian vlogger is set to face trial next week on three counts of unjust vexation. If found guilty, he could serve a jail sentence ranging from three months up to a year. Secretary Remulla assured the public, “We will service his sentence, sinigurado ko po ‘yun.”
Moreover, Zdorovetskiy reportedly reached out personally, asking for charges to be dropped by citing mental health issues. Despite this plea, legal proceedings will continue as scheduled.
Current Detention and Next Steps
If convicted, the detained Russian vlogger may be confined in a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) facility for up to 18 months. Authorities maintain that he will be held accountable for his actions.
Zdorovetskiy was arrested on April 3 for harassing Filipino citizens in public while filming content for his vlogs. His actions sparked outrage, leading to police intervention and subsequent detention.
With deportation off the table, the focus now turns to the court’s decision and how the detained Russian vlogger will serve his sentence.
