DICT Launches Trabahong Digital Program
The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has officially launched its ambitious Trabahong Digital program, aiming to create eight million digital jobs by 2028. This bold initiative is a key part of the government’s strategy to drive inclusive economic recovery and accelerate digital transformation.
“The roll out of this flagship program marks a bold step toward inclusive economic recovery and digital transformation under the leadership of newly appointed DICT Secretary Henry Rhoel Aguda,” DICT Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Renato Paraiso said during the National ICT Month launch in Basco, Batanes. The program’s theme, “Walang Iwanan sa Digital Bayanihan,” emphasizes that no Filipino should be left behind in the nation’s digital journey.
Expanding Digital Opportunities Nationwide
Trabahong Digital focuses on growing the country’s digital economy by improving internet access across the Philippines, especially in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs). It also aims to equip Filipinos with the digital skills necessary to work flexibly “anywhere, anytime.”
Secretary Aguda highlighted the importance of unity in development. “True development happens when people work together and no one is left behind,” he said. He added that promoting a digital-first economy will unlock job opportunities and business growth by empowering people with essential digital skills and tools.
Building Trust and Safety in Digital Spaces
Under Aguda’s leadership, the DICT is committed to building a resilient and transformative ICT sector. One of his top priorities is to foster digital trust and safety by enforcing data privacy measures and holding digital platforms accountable.
The agency is collaborating with major online platforms, including Meta, to identify and remove fake job advertisements that jeopardize digital workers’ safety. These actions form part of broader efforts to protect the integrity of online job marketplaces.
Streamlining Services through E-Governance
In addition, the DICT is pushing for the modernization of e-governance platforms to simplify government services. This reform aims to reduce bureaucratic hurdles and make public services more accessible, especially for residents in remote areas.
The agency is optimistic about meeting its job creation target thanks to strong partnerships with local governments, state universities and colleges, and private sector groups. These collaborations will help expand digital skills training and improve internet infrastructure nationwide.
