Digital Threats Monitoring for May 2025 Elections
To guarantee a peaceful, clean, and fair election, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered government agencies to intensify digital threats monitoring ahead of the May 12, 2025 midterm polls. This move aims to protect the country’s future by securing the election’s integrity from online risks.
According to Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) works closely with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC). Together, they address digital security concerns that could affect the election process.
Real-Time Digital Command Post Against Misinformation
Castro highlighted that the DICT and COMELEC partnership will create a real-time digital command center. This center’s task is to detect, prevent, and stop online misinformation and disinformation that could undermine the credibility of the elections.
“Ito ay isang real-time digital command post na handang tukuyin, pigilin, at tapusin ang online misinformation and disinformation,” she stressed.
Ensuring Transparency through Digital Threats Monitoring
This initiative supports a transparent and peaceful electoral process, reflecting the administration’s commitment to a secure environment where every vote counts. It also stresses the importance of digital threats monitoring in maintaining trust in the system.
To further strengthen this effort, COMELEC has launched Task Force Katotohanan, Katapatan, at Katarungan sa Halalan (Task Force KKK sa Halalan). This group will monitor and respond to election-related threats. The joint DICT-COMELEC monitoring center will operate intensively for two days before the elections, ensuring smooth and credible polls.
Collaborative Efforts for a Clean Election
In a recent briefing, Castro emphasized the unity among election watchdogs, including private groups, churches, youth, and various sectors. Their vigilant monitoring will help make sure that every vote is accurately counted and every citizen’s voice is heard.
“Para sa hangaring malinis at tapat na halalan, nagsama-sama ang lahat ng election watchdogs mula sa mga pribadong organisasyon, simbahan, kabataan at iba pang sektor,” she said. “Sa kanilang mahigpit na pagbabantay, matitiyak na ang bawat boto ay mabibilang nang tama, at ang bawat boses ng mga mamamayan ay maririnig.”
PNP’s Role in Securing Elections Through Digital Threats Monitoring
The Philippine National Police (PNP) also reaffirmed its readiness to help secure the elections. PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil assured the public that the police force is fully prepared to protect the sanctity of the vote.
“Ang PNP ay 100 porsyento na handa para sa halalan, at kami ay magsisilbi sa mga mamamayan, hindi sa mga pulitiko,” Marbil declared, underscoring the police’s commitment to impartial service.
With these measures in place, the government aims to keep the upcoming elections safe, fair, and free from digital manipulation, ensuring that democracy remains strong in the Philippines.
