DILG Flags Fake Barangay Forms in Cash Aid Scam
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has issued a clear warning to the public: residents are not required to fill out barangay forms or contact unverified mobile numbers to receive P5,000 to P8,000 in financial assistance. This false information has been spreading on social media, causing confusion among communities.
“This information is false and misleading. No such directive has been issued by the DILG. The mobile numbers listed in the post are not official and are not connected to any legitimate government program,” the agency said in an official statement on Wednesday.
Social Amelioration Program Managed by DSWD
While the DILG did not specify which social media post it referred to, it emphasized that the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) — the government’s main cash aid initiative — is exclusively handled by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). Residents should remain cautious and verify information before sharing personal details or signing any documents related to aid.
Beware of Misinformation and Fraudulent Offers
The DILG urged everyone to stay vigilant against scams that misuse the department’s name. “Misinformation such as this creates confusion and opens opportunities for exploitation,” it said. The agency warned that those who spread false information or commit fraud under the DILG’s name will face legal action under the Cybercrime Prevention Act and other relevant laws.
For those with questions or concerns, the DILG encourages the public to reach out to its Public Assistance Center at (02) 8876-3454 local 8106 or 8107.
