Customs Seizes Discaya Family Luxury Cars
MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) announced it now holds 28 luxury cars owned by the family of contractor Sarah Discaya. The agency confirmed the seizure following recent developments involving the Discaya family’s fleet.
Officials reported that 16 additional vehicles were voluntarily surrendered by the Discayas on Thursday. These join the 12 luxury cars earlier seized through a search warrant at the St. Gerard Construction General Contractor and Development Corp. compound in Pasig City.
Vehicles Undergoing Processing and Investigation
“The 16 vehicles are now undergoing processing by the BOC for sealing and documentation,” sources said. Customs personnel will guard these cars while verifying importation records and assessing applicable duties and taxes. The agency emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities also noted they are coordinating with the Land Transportation Office to further scrutinize the vehicles’ ownership and registration details. This collaboration aims to ensure all legal requirements are thoroughly examined.
Customs Commissioner’s Statement on Luxury Cars
Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno revealed that 14 luxury cars had already been secured, including two not covered by the initial search warrant. During a Senate blue ribbon committee hearing on alleged irregularities in flood-control projects, Discaya herself admitted to owning 28 luxury cars.
However, Nepomuceno clarified that the Bureau of Customs will not permanently confiscate the vehicles at this stage. “They will be returned if legitimate purchases are proven with authentic documents and all tax liabilities are settled,” officials reported.
Public Reactions and Next Steps
Community members expressed interest in the ongoing investigation, highlighting the importance of transparency in such high-profile cases. Local leaders noted that the case underscores the need for strict enforcement of import and tax laws.
Meanwhile, the BOC continues to process and guard the vehicles as it verifies the legitimacy of their importation and ownership. The agency remains vigilant to ensure compliance with all regulations.
