DMW Launches Probe into Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Land Acquisition
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has begun investigating the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration’s (OWWA) P1.4 billion land acquisition deal. This high-value transaction, which took place last year, has raised concerns over procedural irregularities. OWWA administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan confirmed the ongoing investigation during a recent news forum in Quezon City. She explained that the land purchase near Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) was intended to provide accommodation for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). However, the acquisition reportedly did not receive the necessary approval from the Board of Trustees, which is chaired by DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac.
