DOH Alerts Public on Scam Messages
The Department of Health (DOH) recently issued a warning to the public regarding circulating scam messages falsely claiming refunds from the Marcos administration’s zero billing policy. These scam texts are misleading and not authorized by the DOH or any government hospital.
Officials reported that these messages often include suspicious links, urging recipients to check a supposed refund through digital wallets like GCash. The DOH emphasized the importance of avoiding clicking on any such links to protect personal information and avoid fraud.
Details of the Scam Messages
A screenshot shared by health authorities reveals the scam text promising a refund amounting to P8,0617, supposedly tied to the zero billing program. This deceptive message encourages recipients to verify their balance via a link, which is fraudulent and potentially harmful.
Community members noted that the DOH or any DOH-run hospitals do not send out messages containing links to the public. “Ang DOH o ang mga ospital na pinangangasiwaan ng DOH ay hindi nagpapadala ng mga link sa publiko, kaya huwag mag-click sa mga kahina-hinalang link sa mga scam na mensahe,” the agency said in Filipino.
Understanding the Zero Billing Policy
The zero billing policy, implemented by the Marcos administration, ensures that all Filipinos receive free basic or ward accommodation in DOH hospitals. This program aims to provide accessible healthcare without financial burdens for basic hospital services.
Officials clarified that while the policy covers hospital charges, it does not involve any refunds or cash disbursements to patients. Therefore, any messages claiming refunds under this policy are false and should be disregarded.
Public Advised to Stay Vigilant
Health authorities urge the public to remain cautious and verify information from official sources before responding to suspicious messages. The DOH reminded everyone to report scam attempts and avoid sharing unverified content that could mislead others.
“The public is reminded to be careful of scams like the one in the image,” officials added, stressing the importance of awareness and vigilance in protecting oneself against cyber fraud.
