DOTr Enhances Cashless Payments for MRT-3 Riders
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has intensified efforts to improve commuter experience by adding new cashless payment turnstiles in two key Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) stations. These upgrades focus on the Ayala and Cubao stations, making it easier for passengers to pay fares using mobile phones and cards.
The new cashless turnstiles respond directly to the President’s directive to simplify MRT rides payment. According to local sources, this move aims to reduce long queues for beep cards and single journey tickets, providing commuters with a faster, more convenient option.
Expanded Cashless Payment Access Across MRT-3
Currently, each MRT-3 station already has one turnstile dedicated to cashless payments at every entrance and exit. However, the DOTr confirmed they will continue installing additional cashless turnstiles in the coming days to further enhance commuter convenience.
Just last Friday, July 25, the DOTr officially launched new cashless payment options for MRT-3 passengers, allowing fare payments through GCash as well as debit and credit cards. This initiative marks a significant step toward modernizing fare collection systems in the capital’s mass transit network.
Additional MRT-3 Upgrades for Commuters
On the same day as the cashless payment launch, the Information and Communications Secretary announced the provision of free Wi-Fi services at MRT-3 stations. This feature is expected to improve the overall commuting experience by keeping passengers connected while traveling.
As these improvements roll out, commuters can look forward to smoother, quicker access through the stations and more payment options that fit their preferences. Local authorities emphasized their commitment to making public transport more efficient and user-friendly.
