DOTr Supports Uploader Amid GV Florida Bus Video Controversy
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon strongly condemned what he described as a “clear case of harassment” against the individual who uploaded a viral video showing six GV Florida passenger buses allegedly racing on an Isabela highway on June 8. Dizon assured that the government will protect the uploader and provide legal assistance in response to threats made by the bus company.
“For the one who uploaded the video, we assured him yesterday that the government will protect them and that we will provide them with legal assistance against the threat of GV Florida to sue them,” Dizon said, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding citizens who expose public safety concerns.
Government Stands Firm Against Legal Threats
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) chief also reported that he has instructed the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to warn GV Florida that pursuing a lawsuit against the uploader would mean challenging the entire government. This move signals the administration’s commitment to protecting those who bring critical issues to light.
Earlier, GV Florida announced its intention to sue the uploader for cyberlibel following DOTr’s decision to suspend 15 of its buses for one month. These buses operated routes covering Cagayan and the Cordillera region. The suspension came after the viral video raised concerns about reckless driving and public safety violations.
DOTr’s Swift Action on GV Florida Bus Incident
In response to the viral footage, DOTr canceled the licenses of three GV Florida bus drivers involved in the apparent racing incident. This decisive action underscores the agency’s zero-tolerance stance on dangerous driving practices that endanger commuters and other road users.
Local authorities and transport regulators continue to monitor the situation closely. They are determined to uphold road safety standards and hold accountable those who violate traffic laws, especially in public transportation.
Protecting Public Safety and Upholding the Law
The viral video has sparked widespread public concern, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations. The DOTr’s support for the uploader demonstrates the government’s resolve to protect whistleblowers and promote transparency in transport operations.
“If they pursue [the case], they will go up against the Department of Transportation and the government,” Secretary Dizon stated, highlighting the administration’s readiness to back those who act in the public interest.
