DPWH Bohol Denies False Contractor Awards Claims
TAGBILARAN CITY — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bohol Third District Engineering Office has firmly denied recent social media claims regarding contractor awards. These allegations suggested that certain infrastructure projects in the third district were handed to companies linked to a private individual.
District Engineer Magiting Cruz emphasized that none of the contractors mentioned in the viral posts were granted the projects. He urged the public to verify information directly with the office to avoid the spread of misinformation.
Social Media Claims Stir Public Suspicion
The controversy erupted after posts on social media accused firms connected to Sara Discaya of monopolizing government contracts in Bohol’s third district. These claims quickly gained traction online, raising concerns about possible favoritism in awarding infrastructure projects.
Discaya, who serves as president of Alpha and Omega General Contractor & Development Corp., appeared before the Senate blue ribbon committee to address these allegations. She denied any irregularities, explaining that her company is engaged in flood control projects across several provinces including Bohol, Romblon, Cebu, Bacolod, and Zamboanga.
Clarification on Specific Project Awards
Engineer Cruz provided precise details to counter the false claims. He clarified that the road project in Batuan, Bohol, with Contract ID 24HB0016, was awarded to Fuentabuilt Construction Corporation—not to Great Pacific Builders & General Contractor, Inc., as alleged.
Furthermore, the projects in Barangay Bugsoc and Barangay Salvador, Sierra Bullones (Contract IDs 25H00007 and 25H00008 respectively), were both awarded to J.H. Pajara Construction. These contracts were mistakenly attributed to St. Timothy Construction Corporation in the social media posts.
DPWH Bohol Urges Caution Against Misinformation
The DPWH Bohol Third District Engineering Office strongly condemned the spread of false information and warned against misrepresenting public data to mislead citizens or sensationalize issues. Cruz stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in their operations.
“The DPWH Bohol 3rd District Engineering Office strongly denounces the spread of misinformation and the misrepresentation of data meant to mislead the public or sensationalize issues,” Cruz said.
He encouraged the public to contact the office directly for accurate and updated information regarding infrastructure projects.
Commitment to Quality and Transparency
The agency reaffirmed its dedication to delivering safe, high-quality, and environmentally sustainable infrastructure that benefits the people of Bohol.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to delivering high-quality, safe, and environmentally sustainable infrastructure that serves the needs of every Filipino,” Cruz added.
