DPWH Bulacan Engineer Henry Alcantara Dismissed
MANILA — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced the dismissal of Henry Alcantara, the former district engineer of Bulacan First District. This decisive action comes amid investigations into questionable project approvals, officials reported.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon confirmed that Alcantara’s dismissal is effective immediately. “Henry Alcantara, effective today, is dismissed from the [DPWH]. He was suspended. He is now dismissed,” Dizon said during a briefing.
Pending Dismissals and Legal Proceedings
Alongside Alcantara, two other DPWH personnel are facing similar consequences. Secretary Dizon revealed plans to initiate dismissal proceedings against Brice Fernandez and Jaypee Mendoza. “Brice Fernandez, Jaypee Mendoza, I will already begin proceedings of dismissal,” he added.
Moreover, the DPWH legal team will be tasked with recommending formal charges against the three individuals to the Office of the Ombudsman. This move aims to ensure accountability and uphold integrity within the agency, sources said.
Background of the Case
The dismissal stems from a House of Representatives inquiry where Alcantara was confronted about a ‘certificate of completion’ he signed for a project later found to be nonexistent. During the hearing, he attributed the issue to an overwhelming amount of paperwork flooding his desk.
Community members noted that this case highlights the need for stricter oversight and transparency in public infrastructure projects to prevent similar incidents in the future.
DPWH’s Commitment to Accountability
Officials emphasized that the DPWH remains committed to enforcing strict disciplinary actions against personnel involved in misconduct. This development sends a strong message that corruption and negligence will not be tolerated.
Local leaders also expressed hope that these efforts will restore public trust in government projects and ensure efficient use of taxpayer funds.
