DPWH Enforces Lifetime Ban on Ghost Flood Control Contractors
Newly appointed Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon announced a decisive move to impose a lifetime ban on contractors linked to ghost flood control projects. This directive targets Wawao Builders and Syms Construction Trading, companies implicated in questionable flood control initiatives.
During an inspection of a flood control project in Barangay Sipat, Plaridel, Bulacan, Secretary Dizon highlighted a P96 million project handled by Wawao Builders, which he identified as a ghost project. “I will also order the perpetual lifetime blacklisting of Wawao Builders from DPWH and all their possible affiliates,” he declared in an interview with local officials.
Firm Action Against Contractors Behind Ghost Projects
Secretary Dizon emphasized that the DPWH will enforce an automatic perpetual ban on all contractors involved in ghost flood control projects. “We will have them banned along with Syms, which did what [President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.] saw were ghost projects,” he added, underscoring the administration’s zero tolerance for such practices.
Local leaders reported that this stern action reflects the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability in infrastructure development, ensuring public funds are used responsibly.
Ensuring Accountability in Flood Control Projects
The DPWH’s move to blacklist these companies is part of a broader initiative to safeguard flood control measures vital to communities vulnerable to natural disasters. Community members noted that such enforcement will help restore trust in government projects and protect citizens from substandard work.
Officials reported ongoing audits and thorough inspections across various flood control sites nationwide to identify and penalize any similar violations. Secretary Dizon’s firm stance serves as a warning to all contractors to uphold integrity and quality in their work.
