DPWH Palawan District Engineers Ready to Resign Amid Probe

Palawan DPWH Engineers Prepare Courtesy Resignations

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan — The district engineers of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Palawan are prepared to submit their courtesy resignations. This move follows the directive from newly appointed Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon, as local officials confirmed during a recent press briefing.

Engr. Rommel Aguirre of the 1st District Engineering Office, Engr. Noel Fuentebella of the 2nd DEO, and Engr. Amelia Fajardo of the 3rd DEO revealed that their resignation letters are ready. “We’re just waiting for official orders because we just heard it from the news and social media. But on my part, I am already prepared. As a good soldier, I have to follow the instructions, so I will submit as soon as possible once I receive the official orders from higher-ups,” Aguirre said.

Support for Department’s Internal Cleansing

Fuentebella and Fajardo echoed Aguirre’s readiness, emphasizing that their resignations allow Secretary Dizon to appoint new leaders for their posts. Community members noted their strong support for the ongoing internal cleansing within the department, especially amid recent congressional and Senate probes into alleged irregularities.

“I think this will be good for the department. On our part, we are not hiding anything because we are not doing anything wrong,” said Fajardo. Meanwhile, Fuentebella added, “And for those who will be affected, as we’ve seen in the news, there’s nothing we can do about it. It’s the prerogative of the leadership, and we will just have to abide by the orders.”

Denial of Allegations on Ghost Projects

All three engineers firmly denied accusations of ghost projects in Palawan. They assured the public that every infrastructure project under their jurisdiction is fully accounted for.

“As far as our districts are concerned, there is no ghost project,” Fajardo stated. Supporting this, Fuentebella explained that the relatively small number of infrastructure programs in Palawan compared to other regions makes it unlikely for ghost projects to exist.

Morale Remains Despite Controversies

When asked about the impact of these controversies on their morale, the engineers admitted feeling affected but maintained clarity of conscience. Aguirre shared, “My morale remains high because we’re not hiding anything and we’re not doing anything wrong. What is happening in other areas is actually an exceptional case that has become sensational.”

Fuentebella also noted, “While I’m somehow affected, we just have to continue doing our jobs. We always make sure that our responsibilities are carried out properly.” Fajardo expressed personal disappointment that hardworking personnel and the entire department are being drawn into the controversy.
