The bus driver who fatally hit a woman along the EDSA bus lane on Tuesday apologized for the accident
In Marisol Abdurahman’s Tuesday report on “24 Oras,” the bus driver said he didn’t notice the victim crossing the bus lane in Cubao, Quezon City.
“Hindi na po. Medyo traffic pa po dyan eh kaya natakpan siya ng mga sasakyan. Napansin ko nasa harapan na siya,” the bus driver said.
(I didn’t notice her. It’s traffic along EDSA, and I couldn’t see her because of the vehicles. I only noticed her when she was in front of the bus.)
The bus driver also said he was not going fast.
“Kasi puno po ako ng pasahero. Pasenysa na po kayo. Hindi ko sinasadyan yun,” he added,
(The bus was full of passengers. I’m sorry. I did not mean it.)
The victim hit the right-side windshield of the bus.
According to the Quezon City traffic sector, the bus driver was driving at 30 kilometers per hour speed, but they still have to review CCTV footage.
The bus driver is under police custody and is facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
The accident caused other EDSA buses to use the regular lanes, which caused traffic for over an hour.
Authorities reminded the public to use the correct pedestrian lanes since it is prohibited to cross in the EDSA busway. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
