Driver Tests Positive in Deadly Batasan-San Mateo Road Crash
The driver of a 10-wheeler truck involved in a fatal accident on May 29 along Batasan-San Mateo Road in Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City, tested positive for illegal drugs. Authorities confirmed this after conducting mandatory tests following the incident.
According to local police sources, alias “Eruel” underwent an alcohol breath analyzer (ABA) test and a drug test in line with Section 7 of Republic Act No. 10586, also known as the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013. While the ABA test performed by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) came back negative, the drug test administered by the Quezon City Police District Forensic Unit revealed the presence of methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly referred to as shabu.
Investigation and Vehicle Inspection
Following the positive drug result, authorities conducted a thorough inspection of the Isuzu 10-wheeler truck involved in the crash. Despite the positive drug test, no illegal substances or drug paraphernalia were found inside the vehicle.
The driver now faces charges for violating R.A. 10586, which will be filed with the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office. The tragic accident resulted in the deaths of three individuals and left seven others injured.
Local leaders and law enforcement emphasized the importance of strict adherence to traffic laws to prevent such tragedies. The case highlights ongoing concerns about road safety and drug use among drivers.
