DSWD Distributes Over P37M Relief to Families Affected by Crising
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has swiftly distributed over P37 million in relief aid to families impacted by Severe Tropical Storm Crising and the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat. This early response helped thousands of households recover from the recent weather disturbances.
DSWD Assistant Secretary and Spokesperson Irene Dumlao reported that the assistance included 53,383 family food packs, ready-to-eat meals, and essential non-food items. These were delivered directly to affected families across various regions.
Thousands Affected Across Multiple Regions
According to the agency’s 6 a.m. situational report on Sunday, approximately 523,686 individuals or 151,012 families in 1,134 barangays have been affected by the storm and heavy rains. The impacted areas span the National Capital Region, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and the Cordillera Administrative Region.
Among those affected, 33,608 individuals or 9,261 families have sought refuge in evacuation centers, while 99,834 individuals or 22,511 families are receiving assistance outside these centers.
Quick Response Teams Ensure Fast Aid Delivery
Dumlao praised the agency’s Quick Response Teams (QRTs) for their relentless efforts in delivering aid promptly. “We were able to distribute this assistance as fast as we could because of the round-the-clock response efforts of our Quick Response Teams from our Field Offices,” she said.
She added that the total assistance surged from around P4 million yesterday to P37 million this morning, thanks to the dedicated teamwork of disaster response personnel moving from place to place.
The agency remains committed to continuing its coordination with local government units to provide immediate relief to all affected communities. “We are fully committed to reaching every affected community swiftly and efficiently amid the ongoing challenges posed by the aftermath of Crising and torrential rains still affecting the country,” Dumlao affirmed.
Monitoring Tropical Storm Wipha
Meanwhile, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reports that Tropical Storm Wipha (international name) remains outside the Philippine area of responsibility as of 8 a.m. It was last located 730 kilometers west of Itbayat, Batanes, moving west-northwest at 20 kilometers per hour. The storm carries maximum winds of 100 kph with gusts reaching up to 125 kph.
