DSWD on Red Alert as Tropical Depression Crising Approaches
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has declared a red alert as tropical depression Crising edges closer to the Philippines. Authorities are preparing to respond swiftly to any impact caused by the storm.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Crising was last tracked 335 kilometers northeast of Virac, Catanduanes. The tropical depression is moving west-northwest at 30 kilometers per hour, carrying winds of up to 55 kph and gusts reaching 70 kph.
DSWD Prepares for Immediate Response
The DSWD’s Disaster Response Command Center in Quezon City remains on high alert, while field offices nationwide stand ready to assist affected communities. Asec. Irene Dumlao, DSWD spokesperson, emphasized the agency’s readiness during a media briefing, stating, “We already have different personnel to be deployed to the OCD so that our coordination will be more orderly and fast, so that we can more quickly respond to the requests of various local government units.”
The department has ensured the availability of three million family food packs and ₱2.9 billion in funds to support relief operations if the need arises.
Projected Landfall and Weather Outlook
Pagasa forecasts that tropical depression Crising may make landfall over mainland Cagayan by Friday evening. Residents and local officials have been advised to stay alert and prepare for possible heavy rains and strong winds that could accompany the storm.
Local leaders noted the importance of timely coordination between national agencies and local government units to mitigate the impact. The DSWD continues to monitor the situation closely and stands ready to provide immediate assistance to affected families.
