DSWD Acts to Aid PWD Inside Bus Abuse Victim
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has swiftly responded to a distressing case involving a person with disability (PWD) who suffered physical abuse inside a public utility bus. The DSWD’s immediate intervention focuses on delivering comprehensive support to the PWD inside bus victim.
On June 14, the Crisis Intervention Unit from the DSWD-Central Office conducted a home visit in San Jose Del Monte City, Bulacan. This was to evaluate the victim’s condition and coordinate the necessary assistance with local agencies. Sources said the agency is collaborating closely with the city government and health providers to guarantee the victim receives proper medical and psychological care.
Holistic Support and Therapy Resumption
Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, a DSWD spokesperson, shared on June 15 that the department is exploring ways to refer the victim’s family to psychosocial support programs, such as the Wireless Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (WiSupport) initiative. This program offers comprehensive help to those experiencing mental health challenges like anxiety and depression.
Moreover, Dumlao emphasized the importance of restarting the victim’s therapy sessions, which are crucial for his recovery and growth. During the home visit, it was discovered that the family’s primary income comes from selling corn—a livelihood insufficient to cover therapy expenses. The DSWD is therefore coordinating with medical institutions and partner service providers to continue these vital sessions.
Financial and Legal Aid to Support Recovery
Aside from health interventions, the department plans to provide financial assistance to support the victim’s treatment and daily living needs. Legal aid is also being arranged to help the family seek protective measures and pursue justice against the perpetrators.
Local leaders noted that the DSWD, in partnership with the local government, will carry on monitoring the situation and provide additional support based on ongoing assessments. This commitment aims to help the victim and his family heal from the trauma.
Viral Video Sparks Public Outcry
A video of the assault circulated on social media last week, showing the victim visibly distressed as several individuals physically attacked him inside the bus. The footage reportedly shows the victim being kicked, punched, and even electrocuted, prompting widespread concern and calls for action.
The DSWD’s prompt response highlights the urgency of protecting vulnerable individuals and ensuring they receive justice and care. For more news and updates on PWD inside bus cases, visit Filipinokami.com.
