Duterte Calls on Victims to Break Silence on Drug Abuse and Rebellion
DAVAO CITY – Davao City’s first congressional district Rep. Paolo Z. Duterte has urged victims of drug abuse and communist rebels to come forward. He wants them to help reveal the “cruelty and deception” behind these groups, which continue to spread violence across the country.
Highlighting the need to end the silence, Rep. Duterte emphasized the importance of exposing crimes linked to illegal drugs and the New People’s Army (NPA) insurgency. He warned that staying quiet only allows these groups to operate unchecked.
“It is time for you to speak up. It is time to expose the true brutality and deception of these criminals (illegal drug pushers and users) and rebel groups who continue to destroy our society,” he said in the local dialect.
Rep. Duterte Denounces NPA as Terrorists
The lawmaker labeled the NPA a terrorist organization and dismissed any claims portraying them as victims. Instead, he held them responsible for the deaths and displacement of thousands, including soldiers, police officers, teachers, farmers, and youth.
“The NPA is a terrorist organization. They are not victims. They are the reason why thousands of Filipinos have lost their lives, homes, and futures. Instead of fighting for peace, they bring violence, fear, and extortion to our communities,” he declared.
The NPA, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), has waged a decades-long insurgency. The Philippine government officially classifies them as terrorists.
Connecting the Fight Against Drugs and Insurgency
Rep. Duterte framed the battle against the NPA as part of a larger national struggle, linking it closely with the government’s ongoing war on illegal drugs. He stressed that both battles are crucial for securing the nation’s future and safety.
“Together with the campaign against illegal drugs and the fight against the NPA is a fight for the future of our children and the security of the entire country,” he said, reaffirming his support for former President Rodrigo Duterte’s tough stance on peace and order.
“In support of the stand of former President Duterte, I encourage every Filipino who has been a victim of the NPA or drug addicts to speak up. Your stories matter. You are the real voice of the people. Let us not allow terrorists to twist the truth,” he added.
Government Ready to Listen and Protect Victims
Rep. Duterte assured the public that the government is prepared to listen, protect, and take action. He emphasized that this fight is for all Filipinos seeking peace and justice.
His statements come amid renewed efforts by lawmakers and security officials to address insurgency and drug-related crimes, especially in Mindanao and other vulnerable regions, sources said.
