Four Arrested for Dynamite Fishing in Quezon
Four individuals were caught using illegal methods in Panukulan, Quezon, during a crackdown on dynamite fishing. The Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog reported the arrests following a joint operation held on Friday.
Authorities intercepted the suspects in Sitio Pulong Kiko, Barangay Libo, while they were aboard a motorized fishing banca. The suspects tried to escape by throwing their catch and fishing gear into the water, but the enforcement team prevented their getaway.
Confiscated Equipment and Charges Filed
Officials seized an unmarked motorized banca, a compressor, diving gear, improvised fishing tools, and storage boxes. The total estimated value of the confiscated items reached approximately P96,020.
The four individuals face charges for violating Municipal Fisheries Ordinance Number 02-2005, Section 19.15, which strictly bans the use of explosives in fishing activities. These laws aim to protect marine life and preserve the environment.
