E-trike Driver Arrested for Snatching Phone
An e-trike driver who snatched a cellphone from a US tourist was apprehended by Pasay City Police Substation 7 just five hours after the incident on June 14. The swift police response led to the arrest of the suspect, known only as “Dagul,” 33 years old, in Maricaban, Pasay City.
Col. Joselito de Sesto, the Pasay City Police chief, confirmed that while Dagul is in custody, his accomplice, identified as “Jun-Jun,” remains at large. The arrest followed a quick investigation and collaboration with local officials.
The Incident and Immediate Police Action
The victim, a 52-year-old US tourist, reported that he was walking with his son along Lawaan Street in Maricaban when two men suddenly approached and snatched his Samsung Galaxy phone, valued at about P11,200. The assailants quickly fled, leaving the tourist shaken but unharmed.
The victim promptly sought help from the Maricaban Substation, which coordinated with Barangay 182 officials to review CCTV footage. This evidence was crucial in identifying the suspects and tracing their movements.
Follow-up Operation and Arrest
Acting on the gathered information, the police conducted a follow-up operation that resulted in Dagul’s arrest. He was then turned over to the Investigation and Detective Management Section (IDMS) and is currently detained at the police custodial facility.
Authorities continue to search for the second suspect, alias Jun-Jun. Police urge the public to come forward with any information that could lead to his arrest.
