Easterlies and ITCZ Bring Rain Showers Nationwide
The easterlies and Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) will continue to cause rain showers and thunderstorms across many areas of the Philippines in the next 24 hours, sources said on Monday, June 16. These weather systems are expected to affect wide parts of the country, especially the Visayas, Bicol Region, and Quezon.
A weather specialist explained that the easterlies, warm winds blowing from the Pacific Ocean, are responsible for the cloudy skies and scattered rains in these regions. Residents should remain vigilant as flash floods and landslides may occur, particularly during moderate to heavy rain episodes.
Impact on Mindanao and Other Regions
Meanwhile, the ITCZ, formed by the meeting of winds from the northern and southern hemispheres, will bring partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over most parts of Mindanao. This weather system promotes the development of rain clouds, affecting the southern island.
By Tuesday, June 17, the ITCZ is expected to move away and no longer influence any part of the country. However, scattered rain showers and thunderstorms brought by the easterlies will likely persist from Tuesday to Wednesday, June 18, over the eastern sections of Luzon and Visayas.
Weather Outlook Toward the Weekend
From Thursday to Friday, June 19 to 20, weather conditions are forecast to improve in Eastern Visayas. Despite this, the eastern portion of Luzon will continue to experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms driven by the easterlies.
Metro Manila and other areas nationwide can expect generally fair weather in the mornings. Still, there is a chance of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the afternoons or evenings throughout the forecast period.
Residents are advised to stay alert and monitor local updates due to possible flooding and landslide risks. For more news and updates on weather conditions, visit Filipinokami.com.
