EDSA Opened to Provincial Buses Amid Election Travel
EDSA has been opened to provincial buses as many Filipinos travel to the provinces to cast their ballots in the midterm elections scheduled for May 12. This move aims to ease travel for voters heading home.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) allowed provincial buses to pass through EDSA starting 10 p.m. on May 9 until 5 a.m. on May 13. This extended window covers the days before, during, and after election day.
Designated Drop-Off Points Along EDSA for Provincial Buses
To keep traffic flow smooth, the MMDA set specific drop-off points for buses coming from different directions. Buses from North Luzon will unload passengers at designated terminals in Quezon City.
Meanwhile, those coming from South Luzon will drop off at terminals in Pasay City and the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange. These locations help manage passenger movement efficiently.
Rules for Loading and Unloading on EDSA
Importantly, the MMDA stated that no other loading or unloading areas along EDSA will be allowed during this period. This measure ensures that buses do not cause additional congestion on the busy highway.
Voters and commuters are encouraged to use only the specified terminals for boarding and alighting to maintain order and safety.
How EDSA Opened to Provincial Buses Supports Voter Movement
By opening EDSA to provincial buses, authorities aim to facilitate the large volume of Filipinos traveling home for the elections. This strategy helps reduce traffic bottlenecks and supports smoother transit.
Furthermore, these arrangements highlight efforts to accommodate the public’s movement during an important national event while maintaining traffic discipline along EDSA.
