Election-Related Incidents Monitored Since January 12
Since the election period began on January 12, authorities have tracked a total of 74 validated election-related incidents. These cases have been closely monitored as part of the preparations for the May 2025 midterm elections.
Regional Breakdown of Election Incidents
Data reveals that the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) reported the highest number of election-related incidents, with 23 validated cases. Following BARMM, the Cordillera Administrative Region recorded 17 incidents, Calabarzon reported nine, and the Zamboanga Peninsula had five.
Meanwhile, the Davao Region logged four validated cases, and Central Luzon had three. Two cases each were reported in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Bicol, Western Visayas, Soccsksargen, and the Negros Island Region. Eastern Visayas recorded one incident.
Current Status of Election-Related Cases
Out of the 74 election-related incidents monitored, 55 remain under investigation. Nine cases are awaiting the filing of complaints, while six already have cases filed. One incident has been resolved, two were dismissed, and one was settled amicably.
Authorities continue to verify 43 suspected election-related incidents. Although updates on fatalities and injuries linked to the elections are still pending, there have been 20 confirmed election-related killings so far.
Overall Assessment and Future Security Plans
Despite reports of violence and voting delays in certain areas, the May 2025 midterm elections have generally proceeded peacefully. The police force plans to review its security strategies based on experiences from the recent elections.
This review aims to strengthen preparations for upcoming elections, including the parliamentary polls in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region scheduled for October, as well as the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections set for December.
