Four People Died While Voting in Eleksyon 2025
At least four people died while twelve others were injured during the halfway point of Eleksyon 2025 on Monday, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP). These incidents have sparked concern, but authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
As of 1 p.m., the PNP reported that two of the fatalities occurred in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). The victims included a municipal councilor candidate and a barangay chairman’s brother who were involved in a shooting incident. Meanwhile, two other deaths happened in the Negros Island Region where eight people were also wounded.
Eleksyon 2025 Experiences Multiple Incidents Across Regions
So far, the PNP has recorded a total of 12 incidents on Election Day. These took place in various areas such as Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, BARMM, Negros Island Region, Metro Manila, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
The reported events ranged from armed encounters and shooting incidents to delays with automated counting machines, robbery, and even fire. Despite these challenges, police continue to secure the voting process and ensure public safety.
PNP Chief Assures Peaceful Conduct of Eleksyon 2025
Police General Rommel Marbil, head of the PNP, expressed confidence that the elections are generally peaceful. He said, “Hundred percent maayos po ang eleksyon natin. Wala po tayong nakikitang magulo kasi nire-report sa akin. Except doon sa Mindanao. The rest maganda, peaceful po ang eleksyon ngayon.”
In English, this translates to: “Our elections are 100 percent smooth. We don’t see any chaos because it is reported to me. Except in Mindanao. The rest is good, the elections are peaceful today.” Despite isolated incidents, the overall atmosphere remains calm.
Voting Hours and Guidelines During Eleksyon 2025
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) set early voting hours from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. for senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and pregnant women. Regular voting is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., but seniors, PWDs, and pregnant women may still cast their ballots after 7 a.m. as long as they do so before the cutoff time.
Authorities continue to encourage voters to exercise their rights while ensuring safety measures amid ongoing incidents.
