Eleksyon 2025 precincts open nationwide, voting underway

Eleksyon 2025 precincts open nationwide

All precincts across the country officially opened on Monday for Eleksyon 2025, welcoming millions of voters eager to cast their ballots. The Commission on Elections (Comelec) confirmed that 100% of the 94,000 voting precincts nationwide have started operations, serving around 68 million registered voters.

Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia said, “Sa buong bansa nagsimula na, 100% na nagbukas ang mga presinto natin.” This means that nationwide, all precincts are now open and ready for the election day.

Early voting kicked off at 5 a.m., followed by regular voting hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. throughout the country. Despite the smooth start, some polling precincts faced delays in opening due to various reasons.

Challenges causing delays in some precincts

Garcia explained that delays were mostly caused by late delivery of official printed ballots. “May mga nadelay, hindi nakapagbukas ang election registration board sa bandang area ng Mindanao hindi dahil sa karahasan,” he clarified, emphasizing that the delays were not related to violence.

He added, “Walang problema sa election paraphernalia, mga makina, kasi nasa kanila na yan eh. Kaya lang yung mga balota kinukuha pa ng mga guro sa Opisina ng Treasurer.” This means the election machines and materials were already in place, but teachers were still collecting ballots from the Treasurer’s Office. Naturally, this created long lines and caused the delays.

Technical glitches and power interruptions reported

Earlier reports from authorities also mentioned some polling centers experiencing technical glitches and power outages. These issues were noted in regions such as Central Luzon, Northern Mindanao, Cordillera Administrative Region, Davao Region, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Despite these hiccups, Comelec assures that the election process remains on track and that all efforts are being made to address any concerns promptly. Voters are encouraged to exercise their right and participate actively in Eleksyon 2025.
