Emergency Response Vehicles Strengthen Legazpi Barangays

Emergency Response Vehicles Delivered to Legazpi Barangays

LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – Emergency response vehicles were handed over to 45 barangays in Legazpi City on Saturday, May 31, as part of a continuing effort to boost local emergency preparedness. This second batch joined an earlier delivery of 25 vehicles, ensuring that all 70 barangays in the city have now received these crucial assets.

The turnover ceremony took place at Sawangan Park, where outgoing Mayor and incoming Ako Bicol party-list Representative Alfredo “Pido” Garbin Jr., Mayor-elect Hisham Ismail, city officials, and barangay leaders gathered to witness the event. The vehicles aim to improve the barangays’ ability to respond promptly and effectively during emergencies.

Significance of Emergency Response Vehicles for Barangays

Mayor Garbin expressed gratitude for the funding support provided through the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF), which made the purchase of the emergency response vehicles possible. He emphasized the importance of these vehicles in enhancing public safety and service efficiency.

Ako Bicol party-list Representative Zaldy Co highlighted the long-awaited nature of this initiative. “Matagal na po namin itong ninanais. 2024 pa po itong budget, pero finally na-turn-over na natin itong rescue vehicles. Kung maalala ninyo pinangako natin ito nung barangay election, oath-taking nung mga nanalo sa barangay elections,” Co said.

He further explained that these vehicles are vital tools for maintaining peace and order across all barangays in Legazpi City. Their deployment is expected to speed up official transactions and improve overall operations within the local communities.

Enhancing Barangay Capacity Through Local Government Support Fund

This program, supported by the Local Government Support Fund, reflects a strong commitment to empower barangays in managing emergencies more effectively. Community leaders have noted that with these vehicles, responders can reach affected areas faster and provide timely assistance to residents.

The distribution of emergency response vehicles aligns with broader efforts to strengthen grassroots governance and public safety systems. Barangay officials, who are the direct beneficiaries, expressed optimism that these resources will significantly improve their capacity to serve their communities during critical situations.
