Partnership to Empower Women in Vulnerable Areas
The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) recently partnered with a major foundation to launch a new initiative aimed at uplifting underprivileged women. This collaboration centers on the Elevate AIDA program, which provides artificial intelligence data annotation training to women in conflict-affected and vulnerable communities. By equipping participants with digital skills, the program opens doors to remote work, freelancing, and digital entrepreneurship.
Artificial intelligence data annotation involves labeling and tagging raw data to help AI systems understand and learn from information, much like humans do. Through this process, machines can recognize patterns and make accurate predictions.
Key Details of the Elevate AIDA Program
The memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed by key officials from both organizations in Makati City. The Elevate AIDA initiative aims to train women in seven regions, including areas with ongoing peacebuilding efforts such as the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). These locations were chosen due to the presence of vulnerable populations who can greatly benefit from additional livelihood opportunities.
According to sources familiar with the project, the training will help participants develop essential skills for digital jobs that can be done remotely. This effort supports the government’s broader peacebuilding goals by fostering economic stability within communities.
Investing in Women to Promote Peace and Stability
Officials involved in the program stressed the importance of investing in women as a pathway to lasting peace. One source expressed that providing women with technology-based training and income opportunities can improve household incomes and encourage leadership roles among women. This, in turn, contributes to the resilience and long-term stability of communities recovering from conflict.
The program is not just about technology but also about transforming women’s lives. It aims to train 300,000 women nationwide over the next three years. One community leader shared the empowering message given to participants: “Kaya ko rin. May lugar ako sa makabagong mundo” (I can do this. I have a place in the modern world).
Collaborative Efforts and Future Outlook
The signing ceremony brought together representatives from peace and women’s organizations as well as community leaders and program coordinators. Their collective support highlights the shared commitment to empowering women through digital skills development.
As this project rolls out, it is expected to create sustainable livelihood options for women in some of the country’s most vulnerable areas, reinforcing the ongoing peace processes and community resilience.
