Erwin Tulfo Urges Action on OFWs and Senior Citizens

Erwin Tulfo Champions OFWs and Senior Citizens

Outgoing ACT-CIS Party-list Representative and senator-elect Erwin Tulfo has taken a strong stand for overseas Filipino workers and senior citizens who have fallen victim to scams. He called on the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to assist these vulnerable groups in recovering their hard-earned savings.

Tulfo raised the issue after receiving numerous complaints from OFWs and elderly citizens who were deceived. He highlighted how difficult it is for these victims to seek justice, especially since many OFWs have limited vacation time to pursue legal action.

“Ang problema kasi ng mga OFWs natin hindi nila alam papaano habulin ang suspek dahil limited ang araw nila sa bakasyon dito sa ating bansa,” the incoming senator said, emphasizing the challenge.

He also spoke about senior citizens who have been scammed, noting their physical weakness prevents them from chasing or locating the perpetrators. “Ang mga seniors naman na naloko ay mahina na rin para habulin o hanapin ang mga nag-estafa sa kanila,” Tulfo added.

NBI Offers Support to Scam Victims

During a meeting with NBI Director Jaime Santiago at the NBI headquarters in Pasay City, Santiago encouraged victims to report fraud immediately. “Bukas po lagi ang opis namin sa mga OFW at senior citizens na naloko ng mga sindikato at itinakbo ang kanilang ipon,” Santiago assured.

He promised that the NBI is committed to working with Senator Erwin Tulfo’s office to address these pressing concerns. “Magtutulungan po kami ng opis ni Senator Erwin para matugunan ang mga problemang ito ng OFWs at seniors,” Santiago said.

The NBI chief also guaranteed that there are effective ways to track down and apprehend these fraudsters swiftly.

Senate Plans Stronger Penalties

Looking ahead, Tulfo announced his intention to file a bill when the Senate reconvenes for the 20th Congress in July. The proposed legislation aims to impose life imprisonment on anyone found guilty of swindling OFWs and senior citizens of their money.

This move reflects Tulfo’s dedication to protecting the welfare of Filipinos both at home and abroad, especially those most vulnerable to scams.
