Expanded Centenarian Act Empowers Senior Citizens in Western Visayas
ILOILO CITY — The National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) recently distributed P88.1 million in cash grants to 8,255 senior citizens in Western Visayas under the Expanded Centenarian Act. This significant payout marks the second quarter release for 2,016 beneficiaries from 2014 and the 6,239 grantees for 2025.
The Expanded Centenarian Act aims to provide financial support to elderly Filipinos who have reached milestone ages. Recipients this round include 3,802 aged 80, 2,805 aged 85, 1,229 aged 90, 357 aged 95, and 62 centenarians, highlighting the broad reach of the program.
Strong Collaboration with Local Governments
In a recent interview, NCSC regional director Ann Rapunzel Ganzon emphasized the importance of teamwork with local government units in reaching more senior citizens. Community members noted that the commission actively visits grassroots areas to raise awareness about available benefits.
“We go down to the community, to the grassroots level, so we raise awareness about the programs of NCSC. We want all the 80, 85, 90 and 95 can get the P10,000 cash gift and P100,000 for our centenarian,” Ganzon said.
Accessible Payout Methods for All Seniors
Officials reported that for bedridden senior citizens who have reached their milestone ages, the NCSC staff personally delivers the cash grants at their homes. Meanwhile, those able to attend receive their payouts in centralized locations to ensure convenience and safety.
“For our senior citizens who have reached their milestone age and are bedridden, we go to their house; and for those who can make it, the payout is being done in one area,” Ganzon added.
Strengthening Networks for Wider Reach
To maximize the program’s impact, the commission continues to enhance coordination with municipal welfare and development offices, offices of senior citizens affairs, and federation officers. These partnerships help verify qualified beneficiaries and ensure timely disbursement of cash gifts.
Community leaders highlighted that during the first quarter of this year, the NCSC already released cash grants to 5,153 senior citizens, reflecting consistent support for the elderly population.
