Extra 30% Pay Rules for July 27, 2025 Special Day
MANILA, Philippines — Employees working on July 27, 2025, will receive an extra 30% of their basic wage for the first eight hours, local authorities said. The Department of Labor and Employment clarified these pay rules apply for the Special (Non-Working) Day on that date under Labor Advisory 09, Series of 2025.
This special day was declared nationwide by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. through Proclamation No. 729 to honor the founding anniversary of Iglesia Ni Cristo.
Pay Guidelines for July 27 Special Non-Working Day
The department explained the following pay conditions for workers on this special day:
- If employees do not work, the “no work, no pay” rule applies unless a collective bargaining agreement states otherwise.
- Those who report to work should get an additional 30% of their basic wage for the first eight hours (basic wage x 130%).
- For overtime, employers must pay an additional 30% of the hourly rate for extra hours worked (hourly rate x 130% x 130% x hours).
- If this special day falls on the employee’s rest day, pay increases to 50% extra for the first eight hours (basic wage x 150%).
- Any overtime on a rest day special holiday will earn an additional 30% on top of that (hourly rate x 150% x 130% x hours).
Understanding the Special Holiday Pay Rules
These rules aim to ensure fair compensation for workers who labor on special non-working days, especially when work overlaps with rest days. Local leaders noted the importance of following these guidelines to respect workers’ rights and maintain workplace harmony.
Employers are encouraged to carefully calculate wages according to these standards to avoid disputes. Employees, on the other hand, should be aware of their entitlements to ensure proper pay.
