Fake Cop and Companions Caught in Angeles City
Authorities arrested a man impersonating a police officer along with three companions after confiscating firearms and a hand grenade during an anti-criminality checkpoint in Barangay Sto. Domingo, Angeles City. The incident unfolded on Sunday afternoon, highlighting the ongoing efforts to curb illegal weapons and crime in the area.
Checkpoint Leads to High-Speed Chase and Arrest
Local police reported that around 2 p.m., officers manning the checkpoint signaled two Yamaha Nmax motorcycles carrying four men for inspection. Instead of complying, the riders accelerated, triggering a pursuit that ended with their capture. This swift action prevented potential criminal activity involving the seized weapons.
Impersonator Fails to Present ID
One suspect, known only as “Ricardo,” 33 years old, claimed to be a policeman but could not produce any official identification. Authorities recovered a Glock 41 pistol and a hand grenade from him. The other three men—“Jaime,” 34; “Jones,” 31; and “Drex,” 21—are residents of Manila. Police also confiscated a .380 caliber pistol from Jones. None of the suspects could provide legal documentation for the firearms.
Attempted Bribery Foiled
Angeles City police director Colonel Joselito Villarosa Jr. revealed that Drex tried to bribe the officers with P3,000 in cash and promised an additional P7,000 through GCash. The bribe attempt failed, and all four men remain in custody pending formal charges.
Weapons Possibly Meant for Robbery
According to Brigadier General Ponce Rogelio Peñones Jr., director of Police Regional Office 3, the confiscated firearms and grenade were likely intended for use in robbery. “Through aggressive checkpoint operations, our policemen thwarted what could have been another robbery incident in the city,” he stated.
Rising Motorcycle-Related Crimes in Angeles City
Local leaders noted that Angeles City has experienced a surge in robbery and snatching incidents involving suspects on motorcycles. These crimes are especially prevalent in areas frequented by foreign tourists, raising concerns over public safety and security measures.
Authorities continue to intensify checkpoint operations and community patrols to deter criminals and protect residents and visitors alike.
