Fake Recruitment Agencies Targeted in Manila
Authorities have closed two fake recruitment agencies in Manila following entrapment operations conducted in the Malate and Ermita districts. The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) announced the arrests of four individuals linked to these bogus establishments.
The crackdown stemmed from directives by the Department of Migrant Workers, aiming to curb deceptive practices that have been exploiting jobseekers. These two locations were operating under the guise of legitimate travel and employment agencies but were actually fronts preying on hopeful overseas workers.
Details of the Operations and Arrests
According to police reports, the arrested individuals are female office staff aged between 29 and 53. They have been detained and are currently held in NCRPO custody as authorities prepare charges against them. The charges relate to violations under Republic Act 8042, also known as the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act, as amended by RA 10022.
The police emphasized that these fake recruitment agencies have been misleading applicants with false promises of overseas employment, causing financial and emotional distress.
Authorities’ Stance on Recruitment Scams
Local officials urge the public to remain vigilant and verify the legitimacy of recruitment agencies before engaging their services. “Ililigtas natin ang mga manggagawa mula sa mga manloloko,” a community leader said, emphasizing the need to protect Filipino workers from fraud.
This recent action follows other similar operations targeting recruitment scams, reflecting the government’s commitment to safeguarding Filipino migrant workers.
