TERESA, Rizal — A couple and their 25-year-old child were injured after a 10-wheeler dump truck crashed into their home in Barangay San Gabriel early Tuesday morning, according to a report by EJ Gomez on “24 Oras.”
The truck, which was loaded with sand and en route from Antipolo to Morong, reportedly lost its brakes due to the vehicle’s heavy load, causing it to slam into the residence.
House Damaged, Family Escapes Through Roof
The impact wrecked the front of the truck, destroyed part of the home’s wall, and damaged the water meter. The family — a 59-year-old man, his 60-year-old wife, and their 25-year-old child — managed to escape by climbing to the roof, as the front gate was blocked by the vehicle.
“I was shouting for help… I crawled to the kitchen fearing more of the house might collapse,” said Mila Tamayo, one of the victims.
They sustained cuts and bruises, but were eventually rescued with the help of concerned neighbors and local responders.
Driver Injured, Later Released After Settlement
The truck driver and his passenger were also injured in the crash. The driver was briefly trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated before being taken into custody by Teresa police.
However, the victims chose not to file charges, as the driver and truck owner agreed to cover all medical expenses and pay for the damage to the house.
