Family Requests Privacy Amid DLSU Student Case
MANILA, Philippines — The family of a De La Salle University (DLSU) law student who was found dead in Cavite over the weekend has asked for privacy, local leaders noted. The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) confirmed that the family wants to keep details of the case confidential.
DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla emphasized that beyond the initial findings shared by authorities, he cannot disclose further information regarding the DLSU student case. “Perhaps contact the family because the family wanted silence on the issues surrounding this case. I’m not at liberty to discuss what the family personally discussed; I’m just providing some details. They asked for privacy,” he said during a press briefing.
Investigation Details on DLSU Student Case
According to police reports cited by Remulla, the student’s body showed no signs of gunshot wounds or hazing injuries. His personal belongings, including his phone and wallet, remained intact. The DILG chief reassured the public by stating, “To put everyone at ease, we can conclusively say that number one: this is not hazing, number two: no signs of foul play, number three: from the time he left Taguig until his body was found, he had no one with him until the last part of his journey.”
Remulla also revealed that the student traveled alone via Grab and was unaccompanied both when he entered a resort and later in the vacant lot where his remains were discovered. “Next to his remains were a bottle of Liquid Sosa and a bottle of milk tea,” he added, referring to a liquid lye product commonly used as a drain cleaner.
Discovery and Search Efforts
The student’s body was uncovered in an advanced state of decomposition at a vacant lot in Barangay Sapa, Naic, around 1:20 p.m. last Saturday. Authorities found the body during the fourth day of search operations, which included reviewing CCTV footage. His father positively identified the remains based on the student’s belongings.
Authorities reported that the man went missing in Taguig City on June 8 but was only officially reported missing to the Taguig City Police Station on June 15.
