Family Demands Justice After Fatal Mistaken Identity Shooting
The family of a man who was fatally shot by his neighbor after being mistaken for a thief in Barangay Maybunga, Pasig City, is urgently calling for justice. The heartbreaking incident has sparked widespread concern, as the victim’s loved ones seek accountability for what they describe as a wrongful and tragic loss.
His live-in partner took to social media to share her sorrow and demand justice for Nano, emphasizing that his life was taken based on a false accusation. Mahal ka namen lahat!” which translates to a promise that justice will be fought for, no matter the time it takes.
She also revealed the difficulty of making such a public appeal but is doing so for the sake of their two-year-old child, who will now grow up without a father. “Sana makamit natin ang hustisya na para sayo!! Wag mo patulugin yung mga tao [na] pumatay sayo ng wala kalaban-laban!! Hustisya para kay nano!” she added, urging the community to ensure that those responsible face consequences.
Details of the Incident and Witness Accounts
According to reports from witnesses and local sources, the suspect claimed that Nano was seen on their roof carrying a hammer. However, CCTV footage contradicts this claim, showing that Nano was outside the suspect’s house and was not holding any weapon. Witnesses also stated that Nano appeared to be searching for something rather than attempting any wrongdoing.
His partner strongly denied the accusation of theft, stating, “Hindi po magnanakaw ang partner ko kahit itanong n’yo pa sa buong Maybunga, damay n’yo na rito sa lugar ko sa Bambang.” She emphasized that Nano was not a thief and urged the community to vouch for his character.
Nano reportedly tried to explain to the suspect that he was not stealing and pleaded for his life, mentioning he had a child. Unfortunately, despite his pleas, the suspect still shot him, leading to his untimely death.
Community Support and Ongoing Efforts
In the wake of the tragedy, local officials have extended their condolences to the grieving family. The victim’s partner expressed her gratitude to Mayor Vico Sotto and Representative Roman Romulo for visiting the wake and offering their sympathies.
The family continues to push for justice in a case that highlights the dangers of wrongful accusations and vigilantism. They hope that their fight will bring awareness to the consequences of such incidents and prevent future tragedies.
